Open Road is always looking for Volunteers and Peer Mentors with passion and drive to support others during their recovery journey from drug and alcohol misuse.
Our vision for Medway is to create an inclusive space were the people we support can positively and proactively move forward in their recovery journey.
Many of our Volunteers and Peer Mentors have been through substance misuse treatment themselves and want to support others with their recovery and wellbeing.
What qualities are we looking for in a volunteer?
It is essential for potential volunteers to be open minded, sincere and non-judgemental as Open Road work with a diverse range of individuals. Specific qualifications or skills are not required as you will receive all the training you need when you join us.
Personal experience of substance misuse can often be an asset as the challenges faced living with substance misuse become beneficial learning tools in understanding the experiences people in recovery may encounter.
If you have been in recovery from drug or alcohol dependency for more than six months start your application today!

Unfortunately, we cannot take applications from people currently receiving treatment for drug or alcohol dependency but once you are stable for six months we’d love to hear from you!
So, whether you have experience of your own challenges, someone else’s substance misuse, or none at all, you can still help provide the vital support that people in recovery need.
We’ll make sure your volunteering role is a fun, challenging, rewarding and supported experience.

Step 1 – Think about your involvement
It is important that you consider the time and dedication involved by reading the role descriptions. You’ll need to be committed to attend training, support and de-briefing sessions.
Step 2 – Complete an application form
To support your application we recommend reading the peer mentor profile before completing.
Complete volunteer application
Submit it via email to volunteering@openroad.org.uk or drop the form off to us in our centre.
After you submit your form, you may be invited to interview; if not, we will give you feedback on why your application was unsuccessful.
Step 3 – Undertake training
If you are successful at interview, you’ll attend a robust training programme. You’ll also need references and an enhanced DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service – formerly known as CRB).
