Open Road in partnership with Essex University

About the project:

Open Road partners with the University of Essex to  support   students attending Colchester campus who may need help with their drug and/or alcohol use. Open Road provides the university with a Recovery Worker  who hosts 1:1 appointments either on campus or virtually to suit the student’s needs. In appointments students are provided with psychosocial support, care planning and harm minimisation advice, and can be offered referrals into structured treatment if  needed. This service is confidential and provides students with a safe space to talk about their drug and alcohol use.

In addition, we can offer training to staff and students who would like to increase their knowledge around drug and alcohol awareness and learn where to signpost others for appropriate support.

To make a referral:

Students can ask for a referral to be made by attending the SWIS drop in (mon-fri 10am-4pm), speaking with the Student Union advice team (mon-fri 10am-4pm), speaking with Chaplaincy or the university health centre. A referral form will be completed with the student and sent on their behalf.

Student’s are also able to self-refer for support by completing the referral form below and emailing It  to ellie.bland@openroad.org.uk or calling 07538751097 to speak directly with Ellie.
