A comprehensive evaluation of Open Road has been carried out by Charlotte Fitzgerald MBA, BA (Hons), an experienced senior manager in local government and a consultant in health & social care. We’re delighted with her report and will act on its findings and recommendations. Here are some highlights:
“The organisation is well-led by a multi-skilled Board of Trustees and a stable and agile Senior Leadership Team. Both are mindful of strengths and weaknesses and work towards continuous improvement and growth. Commissioners recognise Open Road’s competence, capability and integrated ways of working. It is described as adaptable, agile, solution-focussed and responsive, with a track record of delivery. The added social, economic and financial value brought to the community and the health and social care economy is evident throughout the report.”
“Financially, Open Road is in good shape, after a period of challenges, and has seen an increase in turnover over the past few years (over £4m in 2023/24), strengthening grant and tender application skills, securing more contracts and adding social value as well as financial value. There are sound financial control mechanisms, policies and procedures as well as a Sub-Committee which focuses on the detail and reports to the Board. There is excellent financial leadership. Open Road provides a broad range of services to support treatment, recovery and integration into community life across Essex, Medway, Southend and more recently Thurrock. Services are provided in partnership with a range of voluntary and statutory service partners – including health, social services, prisons, police, housing and local government services more widely.”
“In summary, Open Road is a strong, well-led, excellent service which is seen positively and constructively by all stakeholders.”
