IPS is a new service that Open Road is delivering across Essex. Its primary goal is to help our service users find and retain employment in the competitive job marketplace. Four employment specialists integrated with the recovery worker teams deliver IPS. Partners in the drug and alcohol treatment system, such as Phoenix Futures Alcohol Recovery Community, can also make referrals.
Paid employment is a hugely important factor in recovery from substance misuse and mental health problems, the service supports the individual in employment and the period of support is not time limited. The employment specialist also supports the employer with all aspects up to and including spending time at the place of work and advising on reasonable adjustments.
IPS follows eight principles;
It aims to get people into competitive employment
It is open to all those who want to work
It tries to find jobs consistent with people’s preferences
It works quickly
It brings employment specialists into recovery teams
Employment specialists develop relationships with employers based upon a person’s work preferences
It provides time unlimited, individualised support for the person and their employer
Benefits counselling is included.
We already have our first successful employment in north Essex and we are looking forward to many more to come. Please help more people into work by discussing the benefits of work and the service we offer with the people you support.
