We are absolutely delighted that SOS Bus Volunteer, Dennis Barnett has been honoured in the Queen’s 2022 New Year’s Honour List with an MBE for his services to vulnerable people in Essex.  Dennis has volunteered with us for 13 years, supporting the Colchester SOS Bus, giving up his weekend evenings to help people who come to the bus.  From driving the bus to and from site, ensuring it’s in great condition and as part of our welfare team on the bus, Dennis is an irreplaceable member of our team.  Dennis’s daughter, Lillie also volunteers on the bus so it’s very much a family passion, supporting vulnerable people in the local community.

Our Chief Executive, Sarah Wright said, “We are absolutely delighted for Dennis, as one of our longest standing volunteers and supporters of Open Road.  Dennis has volunteered tirelessly over the years, supporting the SOS Bus at weekends from early evenings to very early mornings as well as offering help to the charity during the week.  This is a very well deserved ‘thank you’ to Dennis for being such a fantastic example of the positive difference that one person can make in their local community.  Thank you, Dennis, and well done!”
